Chinese roots in Guan Tang Village

Madison’s Chinese heritage comes from Guan Tang Village through her immigrant great-grandfather, Chock Inn who settled in Kamuela on the Big Island of Hawaii.  Chock Inn opened the Chock Inn store in Waimea in 1910, where it became a popular community landmark for many years.

Madison’s full name is Madison La’akea Te-Lan Hall Chock. La’akea means sacred light from heaven in Hawaiian, and Te-Lan means unique orchid in Chinese — beautiful names that her parents gifted her, to remind her of her roots.
